Phil grew up and studied medicine in Liverpool. He worked for over 30 years as a surgeon, mainly in the NHS but also in rural South Africa and Australia. He moved to Cornwall with his family in 2003 and relishes the outdoor life. He walks, cycles and swims the coastal shores throughout the year and loves the constantly changing views.
Phil’s studio is in Goonearl just outside St Agnes. He draws inspiration from the variety of textures and colours of the Cornish landscape using clay from St Agnes Head. He works mainly on the wheel with a variety of firing techniques and particularly enjoys the uncertainty of ancient methods such as Raku and pit firing where each piece emerges unique.
